Message from Governor Kristin

District Governor KristinMerry Membership!

As we enter the busy holiday season, it is sometimes a great time to take a moment to connect or reMember those members of the club who you haven’t seen in a while or whose membership has lapsed. Look over your club’s roster and place a call or send a note to those members who haven’t been to a meeting or participated in a service project. Check in with them about how they are doing and invite them to an upcoming meeting, project or holiday party. Look over the list of members who recently left the club and reach out if you see a project or speaker that might interest them. Remember most members don’t leave because they dislike Kiwanis, most leave because life gets in the way.

Clubs sometimes have a committee called the Sunshine Committee, which is responsible for reaching out to members who are sick, dealing with a significant life event, or death in the family. This small gesture can mean a lot to members. This committee can also be the ones who reach out to those members who haven’t been around in a bit.

While my engagement in Kiwanis is rooted in giving back to the organization that gave me so much in my youth through Key Club and helping my community, it is the comradery that refills my soul and keeps me involved. Make sure that you take some time this holiday season to reconnect with those in the organization who may have stepped back from the club, but are still an important part of our Kiwanis Family.

Chris, Lindsey and I wish everyone in the New England and Bermuda District a wonderful holiday season filled with laughter, love and memories!

Yours in Kiwanis, Governor Kristin

We encourage you to read the very informative District Newsletter from Governor Kristin.  There is a great deal of information in it including many of the things clubs do to support their local communities. Governor Kristin has mentioned on more than one occasion, if you see anything one of our fellow clubs is doing, please don’t be afraid to try it with your own club.

Member Recognition with Governor Kristin:

Who doesn’t like a little recognition? Within our Kiwanis Clubs, there are so many unsung heroes going above and beyond to help their Kiwanis Club be successful and continue serving the needs of its community. Each month, I am asking the 24-25 Lt. Governors to highlight members and officers of clubs within their division who have gone above and beyond. I will be highlighting some of those recognized here on social media.

Please take the time to read the outstanding Newsletter our Lt. Governor Laura sends out. It is informative.  It not only tells you some important dates and events coming up but gives some good insights into Kiwanis in general. Below highlights just a few key things in it.

A Common Theme…

Have you been in Kiwanis for more than 10 years? Raise your hand-thank you for your dedication to serving our community!

Have you ever said, “We tried that before, and it didn’t work”? Be honest; I bet a few more hands should go up.

As I visit clubs throughout our division, I’m hearing a common message from newer members. They want to find their place in the club, but some feel their ideas aren’t being welcomed. We must remember that they joined to serve, just as we did.

Here’s my ask: Support all your fellow Kiwanians-new or seasoned. If someone suggests an idea that didn’t work before, listen with an open mind. Discuss it together. Do you remember why it didn’t succeed, or just that it didn’t? Share what you know, and see if the obstacles from the past still apply. They may even have fresh solutions.

New members want to help, and they want to feel valued. Imagine how lucky we are to have people eager to contribute! Embrace their ideas; let’s keep them engaged and part of the team. After all, everything we do here is for the kids.

Thank you for being part of the change that strengthens our division!
